David
Claerbout
MIT List Visual Arts Center
February 8-April 6, 2008
The
List Visual Arts Center is collaborating with the Centre Pompidou
in Paris and its Media Arts Curator, Christine Van Assche, to
organize the first museum survey of the works of Belgian artist
David Claerbout. Crossing fixed images with moving images, Claerbout
reworks each pixilated fragment of an analog image to create
new digital compositions. The exhibition, which is on view at
the Centre Pompidou through January 7, 2008, is scheduled to
travel to several other sites around the world, accompanied
by a catalogue with texts by Françoise Parfait, author
of Vidéo, un art contemporain; Raymond Bellour,
a highly regarded French critic and author; and Dirk Snauwaert,
director of the Wiels Contemporary Art Center in Brussels. Claerbout
will be conducting an artist's residency at MIT, during which
he will work with faculty and students on a new project (possibly
a benign computer virus) and will give a public presentation. |
