Message from the Chairman
Welcome
to the Society of Friends of Belgium!
Under the auspices of His Excellency, the Ambassador
of Belgium in Washington and the Consul General of Belgium in New
York, the Society of Friends of Belgium was created in 2006 to identify,
support and stimulate Belgo-American cultural initiatives in the
United States.
As a Belgian living abroad for
the last three decades, I am constantly touched through my travels
by the deep impact that Belgium and Belgian artists have had on
the world’s cultural heritage. Even today, one can wander
through galleries, museums, opera houses, and concert halls around
the world to find some of the most renowned and –yes–
some of the most promising Belgian artists of our time. Exposing
the American public to the richness of Belgian culture promotes
the image of Belgium in the U.S. and enhances the mutual understanding
between the two countries.
Since its inception, the Society
of Friends of Belgium has benefited from the support of many corporations
and individuals, to whom we are deeply grateful. As we continue
to identify and promote multiple events throughout the year, we
hope to count on your generosity and in ideas to further fulfill
our mission.
I am proud to serve as the first
Chairman of the Society and thank you for your interest, for your
involvement and for your support.
Sincerely,
François M. de Visscher
